Sandy River & Rangely Lakes All-Time Roster

The SR&RL was the largest two foot gauge railroad in the United States,
serving a remote section of Maine. It was formed by the 1908 merger of
the Sandy River Railroad, the Franklin & Megantic Railroad and the Phillips
& Rangely Railroad. The Eustis Railroad, a P&R subsidiary, was officially
acquired at auction in 1911, although it had long operated as part of the
SR&RL system.

In later years six locomotives were stored out of service at the Phillips
shops. Many older locomotives were stored in derilect condition in an
incomplete roundhouse known as the "Old Stone Fort" across the Sandy
River from Phillips. The road shut down in 1935 and was sold at auction.
Most of the equipment was scrapped in 1935 and 1936.
