The EPA issued a proposed rule in the Federal Register concerning formaldehyde emissions standards for composite wood products. EPA has now reopened the comment period for 30 days for that standard and will hold a public meeting for April 28, 2014 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Public comments are now due May 8, 2014.
EPA is especially interested in comments on the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) potential modifications to its Airborne Toxics Control Measure (ATCM) to Reduce Formaldehyde Emissions from Composite Wood Products to address laminated products.
The proposed rule will implement the statutory formaldehyde emission standards for hardwood plywood, medium-density fiberboard, and particleboard sold, supplied, offered for sale, or manufactured (including imported) in the United States. Among other provisions, EPA is also including provisions related to laminated products, products made with no-added formaldehyde or ultra low-emitting formaldehyde resins, testing, requirements, labeling, and recordkeeping.
