Part of Narberth's charm comes from it's proximity to Philadelphia and the surrounding Lower Merion Township. Philadelphia City Hall is easily accessible by train, car or bus. Center City Philadelphia is 20 minutes away by the R-5 Paoli/Doylestown train, and the SEPTA train station is right in the center of downtown Narberth. SEPTA bus route 44 runs right through Narberth and on into Center City via Montgomery Avenue. By car, you can commute into Philadelphia through Fairmount Park or on the Schuylkill Expressway.
Incorporated as a Borough in 1895, Narberth is known as the Heart of the Main Line. The Amtrak railroad tracks divide the town into north and south sides. A convenient layout places shops, recreational facilities, houses of worship, the library and schools within easy walking distance of most homes.
Primarily a residential community, downtown shopping along Haverford Avenue is convenient to the train and bus; the Municipal and Fire Company building; as well as to the playground, Community Building and library.
The Borough has its own Police, Highway and Volunteer Fire Departments, as well as its own ambulance service, library and recreational facilities. In addition, Narberth cooperates with Lower Merion Township for additional services. For example, it is served by Lower Merion's outstanding school system.

- County taxes are set by the Montgomery County Commissioners (610-278-3000). A county wide reassessment took effect in January of 1998. At that time, the average assessed value was $198,560.93. In 2000, the average assessed value in Narberth rose to $200,191.27.

- Narberth Playground off of Windsor Avenue is the Borough's main facility. It features lighted basketball courts; tennis and volley ball courts; fields for baseball, softball, football and soccer; sandbox play areas; and year-round bathroom facilities.
- The Sabine Avenue Tot-Lot is on the grounds of the former Narberth Elementary School. The newly renovated facility features climbing structures and sandboxes.
- Narberth Library boasts over 30,000 volumes in its collection. Located at 80 Windsor Avenue in the Community Building, the library cooperates with the Lower Merion Library Association on inter-library loans and features Internet access.
Narberth Athletic Association (610-664-2840):
- Fall Soccer Program -- The program features teams for children from age 7 and above. Registration begins in September. Also, there is the Girl Power Soccer League of Narberth for girls 8 to 9 years of age. The season runs from mid-September through early November.
- Baseball Program -- Spring baseball features teams for boys and girls age 7 and up. The Narberth Colt team is for the 10 to 13 age group. The team participates in a league with twelve other local teams. The Narberth Junior Legion team includes the 13 to 16 age group. This is a traveling team that competes in the Delco League that runs from June through August. Finally, the Narberth Senior Legion team is for 16 year olds and above. It, too, competes in the Delco League.
- Summer Basketball -- There are separate leagues for boys and girls. The Boys Summer Basketball program is a highly competitive league for high school age players. There is a separate league for junior players in the 7th grade. The Girls league boast many prominent local high school players. Registration begins in mid-January and fills up quickly.
- Narberth Five-Mile Run -- Organized by the Narberth Run Committee, this events features runners from all over the East Coast. It usually takes place in late April and benefits a local child with Cystic Fibrosis. For more information, contact the committee at Narberth_Run@excite.com
Because of its unique location, many points of interest within the Borough and throughout Lower Merion Township are a short drive away or within easy walking distance of Narberth village.
- The Barnes Foundation -- Located on N. Latches Lane in Merion, the foundation houses a world-renowned collection of French Impressionist and African Art.
- The Merion Friends Meeting -- William Penn worshiped here. The building is listed on the National Registry of Historic Sites and is one of the oldest continually used Quaker Meeting Houses.
- The General Wayne Inn -- Rumor has it that the inn still is haunted by a ghost dating back to the Revolutionary War. The inn is named for General Mad Anthony Wayne, who stayed there on his way to join the troops at Valley Forge.
- The Rees-Price House -- This small stone building is catty-corner to the General Wayne Inn. Today, it is the home of the Hamper Shop of Lankenau Hospital, but was once the house of the founder of Narberth.
- St. Joseph's University -- The University is primarily on the Philadelphia side of City Avenue and it is know as Philadelphia's Jesuit University.
- Haverford College -- The College is one of the most prestigious in the nation and one of the oldest on the Main Line.
- St. Charles Borromeo Seminary -- The Papal visit in 1995 is commemorated by a cross at the corner of Lancaster and City Avenues.
- The Bert Bell Historic Marker -- Bert Bell is the founder of the National Football League. There is a marker honoring Mr. Bell in front of Mapes Store on Haverford Avenue in Narberth.
